OUR LEADERSHIP

Group Directors

Gavin first joined Illovo in 1988 as a post-graduate student, thereafter holding a number of technical, business development, operational, and general management roles. From 2008 he led the Australia-based global technology unit of the AB Mauri yeast business, re-joining Illovo in December 2010. Gavin was appointed to the Illovo Board as Operations Director in April 2012 and subsequently, as Group Managing Director in September 2013.  He has played an integral role in the group’s evolution towards becoming a leading, pan-African, consumer-facing agri-business.

Nelis’ experience leading R&D, operations, and transformation projects in his previous role at Sasol, is intrinsic to his role at Illovo. A chemical engineer by training, he has expanded his skills to encompass people and organisational objectives.

ANDRÉ'S BIO

Andre joined Illovo in 2017 from SABMiller Africa where he spent almost a decade immersed in the African FMCG sector. His focus at Illovo is to drive the development of a winning sales, marketing and distribution organisation, aligning strongly with the group’s #AfricanSugar4AfricanMarkets advocacy position.

Doug brings his experience leading large and complex finance and management information projects for KPMG UK’s clients, to his role at Illovo. He has also worked for Unilever across multiple territories in a number of financial roles.

Carryn joined Illovo in 2019 as Group Business Transformation Director, responsible for strategy execution, communication and innovation. Prior to joining, Carryn was a Director for Deloitte Consulting Africa and brings 18 years of experience in executing strategy through large scale, cross-functional, transformation programmes.

Prior to joining, Carryn was a Director for Deloitte Consulting Africa and brings 18 years of experience in executing strategy through large scale, cross-functional, transformation programmes.

Guy has served in multiple markets and senior financial roles in his 20+ year career with Illovo, including in Eswatini, Malawi, South Africa, and now, as MD in Tanzania. He joined the business in 1996, after working for Ernst & Young in the USA.

Filipé joined Illovo as MD of Maragra Açúcar in 2017, where he leverages his broad business experience in Mozambique’s commercial, marketing and logistics sectors. Prior to this, he was MD of DNA (Distribuidora Nacional de Açucar).

Mamongae joined Illovo in 2018 as MD of the South African operation. She has a wealth of general management, commercial, operational, and engineering experience from roles at SABMiller, Tanzania Breweries Ltd, Unilever, and Coca Cola Beverages Africa.

Oswald has served as MD for Illovo’s Ubombo Sugar since 2013, leading the sugar company operations in Eswatini. He started his career in the sugar industry in 1998 and has general management and operational experience as well as development finance experience with the World Bank Group (IFC).

OSWALD'S BIO

Oswald has served as MD for Illovo’s Ubombo Sugar since 2013, leading the sugar company operations in Eswatini. He started his career in the sugar industry in 1998 and has general management and operational experience as well as development finance experience with the World Bank Group (IFC).

Lekani joined Illovo in August 2015 and has served as both Financial Director and Human Resources Director, before being appointed to Managing Director in April 2020. Prior to Illovo, Lekani spent almost two decades with Deloitte.

Rebecca joined Zambia Sugar in 1997, as marketing services manager, rising through the ranks to be appointed MD in 2015. Her career has been spent in the manufacturing and FMCG sector working in either sales or marketing roles.
