YET again, Ubombo Sugar’s hospital has been recognised as the healthcare facility with the Best Infant Breastfeeding, Growth monitoring and Immunisation programme in Swaziland (1st prize).
The award from the Swaziland Ministry of Health recognises efforts by hospitals in Swaziland in promoting exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life and quality of care for children under five years of age. In the context of Swaziland where the prevalence of HIV is ominously high, a child who is breastfed is almost three times more likely to survive infancy than one who is not.
This award reinforces the current Continuous Improvement (CI) initiative that the hospital is implementing in all its activities. Through CI, the hospital’s model of medical care is now defined by teamwork, with a group of medical staff focusing their expertise on one patient at a time.
