ILLOVO SUGAR (MALAWI) was voted the overall top employer for 2014 at the Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM) Top Employers awards. In addition Illovo Malawi also received the premium award in the Training and Human Resources Development category and a gold medal in Corporate Social Responsibility.
The premium award in Training and Human Resources Development comes with a prize of a MK4million (R114 285) training rebate with the Technical Entrepreneurial Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA). The awards presentation in Blantyre was presided over by the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Development, Patrick Kabambe.
Winners of the awards were identified through an ECAM survey independently carried out by KPMG. Aggregate scores in thematic categories - namely Training and Human Resources Development, Corporate Social Responsibility, gender balance, workplace HIV Aids and wellness program, Occupational Health and Safety, and Labour laws compliance and Industrial Relations and largest employer - helped Illovo to win the overall top award.
The awards, the inaugural ones in ECAM’s 50 years’ existence, will be held annually. They are ECAM’s way of promoting employer best practice.
