NCHALO ESTATE has presented long-service awards to 41 employees who had served the company for 25 years and five employees who had served the company for 40 years. The latter five spent their entire working life with the company.
Nchalo GM Bruce Holmes urged new employees to learn from them the values of respect for family, supervisor, job and self, as this was the secret which had enabled them to stay in the company for that long. Throughout their employment here they had seen massive changes in management and operations but they had remained a stabilising factor and had beaten the challenges.
James Changamire, on behalf of the award recipients, who were from the factory, agriculture and finance departments, said changes such as improvements in safety, introduction of the union and the performance-related bonus scheme, training and the promotion of Malawians to positions of agriculture manager and HR manager had been brought about by Illovo and they have motivated employees.
