Illovo Sugar Ltd
"This was Secretary Mantashe's first visit to the sugar industry, and he commented that the success of its small-scale agricultural model should be replicated across other forms of small-holder agricultural development in South Africa."
THE Glendale Valley, a primary area of increasing small-scale grower cane supply for the Gledhow Sugar Company, in which Illovo has a 30% share, recently played host to a delegation led by ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe, who wanted to see for himself the significant development of this valley to sugar cane and other forms of agriculture, by small-scale farmers.
As PICTURED here (front left), his first point of contact with the valley community was with Siyabongo Madlala (front right) from the Glendale Valley Rural Development Project which Gordon Spalding, Illovo's small grower land affairs development manager, along with other role players, helped establish in order to seek funding for the valley's continued development.
