"The Hospital That Needed A Hepling Hand"

IN 2009 Kilombero saw the need to build a community hospital, a project taken on by the HR department and fully supported by the Kilombero Charitable Community Trust

It is called the Nyandeo Community Hospital and at present there are four doctors’ consulting rooms, a well-equipped operating theatre, children’s ward, women’s ward, maternity ward, pharmacy, laboratory, admissions office, and mortuary, with the men’s ward and laundry almost complete.

The idea was to build the hospital and hand it over to the Government to equip and run. However, as with many Government hospitals, there is not always the manpower or resources to run at full capacity, hence the need for further funds and assistance in getting certain equipment. This is where the “Jenga Women’s Group” stepped in to help by putting together a 2014 calendar.

They ran a “local shot” photo competition and three elected judges selected the best. Unitrans Tanzania came to the party and donated the full amount for printing. All proceeds will be donated to the hospital and they are confident they will collect more than R22 000, to buy much needed equipment. (To order, e-mail Louise on Cost is R100 per calendar.)
