Illovo Sugar Ltd


ILLOVO SEZELA has been awarded as a Loyal SABS customer for more than 20 years, the first in the sugar industry. SABS is the South African Bureau of Standards, the body that “gate-keeps” the standard to which we produce our products in South Africa.

Doneld Sutherland, Sezela’s SHERQ manager, PICTURED accepting the loyalty award from SABS, says to be the first in the sugar industry to be so rewarded “cannot be measured in words”.

“Being awarded for loyalty is just another assurance to our consumers and customers that Illovo does produce to standards and that we sustain long-lasting relations in the process, ensuring that we are not only the leader in Africa but the world, if one looks at sugar and its downstream products.”

He said he was honoured to receive this award “on behalf of every leader and staff member at Sezela, as they are the gatekeepers in producing safely to standards. I ask for every team member at Sezela to keep this momentum in the process of continual improvement.”

Sezela’s goals are to “stay loyal and keep on supplying conforming sugar and the world’s best downstream products, and being the preferred supplier to our customers.” Lessons they have learned are: Loyalty is hard work; Customers stay loyal to suppliers that satisfy all their needs; and Loyal suppliers always have open and free communication channels with all stakeholders, which includes suppliers and contractors, employees, growers, transporters, government and communities.
